Hearing reports of the destruction caused by storms in the Phillipines is staggering. Government efforts by the Filipinos, with help from the US military and other countries, are underway to rebuild enough of the infrastructure so that aid can be delivered to those who so desperately need it. If you would like to help provide food, water and other aid, here are four places you can donate. The links will take you directly to the donation form. Most sites also have instructions on how to text a donation as well, if you prefer.
AMERICAN RED CROSS. You can also donate to your local chapter by indicating “Phillipine Typhoon” on your check.
UNICEF – children are their first priority.
SALVATION ARMY – their website says “The Salvation Army uses 100% of all disaster donations in support of disaster relief operations.”
CARE – an organization dedicated to fighting global poverty that is positioned to deliver emergency aid.
If you need to find friends or relatives in the disaster area, Google has set up a person finder search page. The web page also says: “Mobile version is available. You can also search with SMS by texting 2662999 (Globe), 4664999 (SMART), 22020999 (Sun), or +16508003977 with the message Search [name]. “
