Finally!!!! The Seventies Kitchen is ready to go out the door! The cabinets were a dark brown when we moved in which made the kitchen like a black hole. They were painted white a few years later which brightened things considerably! We have to leave the same basic footprint since there is no way to change the location of things in such a small kitchen that also serves as a major traffic hub to the rest of the downstairs rooms. HOWEVER, we can change the cabinets themselves so they function much better. Wheels has already started by removing the trim. We are going to reuse the cabinets as basement storage if possible. The ancient range hood is also gone.
This wall is going to see a big change. The microwave used to set on the cabinet. It will be replaced with a floor to ceiling storage cabinet. That will be one of the three major changes that will make the kitchen function so much better.
The soffit above the refrigerator can be removed. The ones above the stove and sink are full of plumbing and electrical so they have to remain. How do we know? Peepholes. Don’t you like my ribbons I used to pull them into place?
The new cabinets arrived last Friday and are stored in the garage. My brother, who has tons of experience, arrived last night from North Carolina to install them. Wheels and Bytes are the helpers and muscle. I’m the clean up crew, cook and go-fer. And off to find torque head screws. Yeah, already learned something today! They are the ones with the five point star in the head.
I’m excited!!!!! I’ll keep you posted!
