Air Fryer Bacon

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Air Fryer Bacon __ A Pinch of Joy

Air Fryer Bacon.  I’ve been experimenting with different items in the air fryer I won in a silent auction.  When I heard of bacon in the air fryer, I jumped at the idea.  One of the things  I like about the air fryer is consistent results because the time and temperature is controlled.  Another thing I like is that things turn out crispier than other methods of cooking.  The airfryer is essentially a small convection oven in which streams of hot air move over and around the food and create the same conditions that makes fried food so delicious.  Bacon sounded like the perfect thing to make in an air fryer.

I was a little nervous since bacon was not mentioned in the material that came with mine.  So a little research on line where I found cooking time and temperature listed and not much else.   But lack of information wasn’t going to get in the way.

How much to cook at a time?  That was easily answered.  Following the cardinal rule of air frying – don’t overlap foods – I could fit four slices of bacon across the bottom of the pan.  I had to “ruffle” the pieces so they fit lengthwise.  That is, use small folds to shorten the bacon pieces.  The folds can’t be so big that they fall and overlap the bacon, just high enough to make it fit on the pan.

Preheat to 350, put the pan of “ruffled” bacon into the hot base.  Cook for 10 minutes.  Just right perfect bacon.  Super crispy bacon might take a minute longer.  Or two.  Depending on your particular air fryer.  The clean up I was concerned about was easy.  The bacon grease dripped into the base.  I poured it out and wiped down the inside of the base with a paper towel before putting it into the dishwasher, just as I would do with a skillet.

Four pieces at a time would be great for breakfast for two.  The time it would take the bacon to cook would easily allow preparation of eggs, toast, juice and a bowl of fruit. Maybe even time enough to wipe down the sink if you don’t do Fly Lady.  (She of the “clean your sink every night before you go to bed” rule. Which works, by the way!) The set it and forget it aspect would be good, since you won’t need to keep an eye on the cooking process as closely as with stove top cooking. If you need more than four pieces, repeat the process.   However, if more than four pieces are needed – I think I’ll stick to the skillet that will fry an entire pound of bacon in the same amount of time.
