The doorbell rang yesterday. Two young men -maybe high school freshmen next year – offered to wash the outside windows. I agreed to their price. They got their very professional equipment and worked their way diligently around the house. Then, one reported they were done, but they couldn’t do the west window well because it had cobwebs. Did you try to knock them down with a blast from the hose? I walked with them to the deep exit window where a dense cobweb about the size of my hand nestled in the corner. And look at that big spider down there at the bottom, the younger one said. I don’t want him to bite me. It is big, I said, but that’s a cricket. He looked at me, what’s a cricket? I was totally baffled 1) that he didn’t know and 2) that I didn’t know what to say!

Charlene, loved your story about the window washers – and the “spider” that turned out to be a cricket. Its so interesting to see the things that students do not know, and yet they often know amazing things in other areas. I love that he asked you what it was. He definitely has curiosity about the things around him!
Also, thanks so much for hosting each week! I love visiting your webpage and Linky Party! – Patty
