A Pinch of Joy

Eat Healthy, Do it Yourself, Live Well, Have Fun.

Busy Monday 707

I haven’t shared much in this space about Wheels’, his illness and subsequent events.  But today I want to share A Pinch of Joy:  I recently sold the no longer needed mobility van.    Sister Bee called a few weeks ago and said  her daughter’s former classmate was looking for a mobility van– could she pass on our phone number.  The family took the van out for a  drive and said yes, this is what we need!  The wheelchair ramp and installation cost as much as the new van itself.  However, it was paid for by an agency, so I did not ask the buyers to pay for it either.   They were thrilled!

The mother was diagnosed with ALS at age 35 after giving birth to their second child, now 11 months old.  Their  story was shared in the local newspaper, picked up by People magazine (link in first comment) and then by a publication in the UK.  I hate the circumstances for both of us.  But I am so glad to have had the equipment for us — and  to pass it on to them.     It truly takes a village. . . . I am so glad that you are a part of the A Pinch of Joy Village!  Thank you for sharing your awesome posts each week!

What an incredible “feel good” story to start our week ~ your generosity and compassion is just a shining light in this crazy world now. Thank you for sharing my Magic Crust Pear Cobbler. I always feel like pears are the “forgotten fruit”, and they’re even better than apples when they’re ripe & sweet! ** Y’all stay safe & warm and I’ll catch you again next week.

    Hi Charlene,
After knowing you here on our blogs after all these years, I am not surprised at your generous gift to others. That is the person we know you to be. We have a special needs Grandson who requires van services and we appreciate and are so thankful for folks like you, thank you!

Hope you are warm and cozy in all of these storms, we are hanging on and grateful to still have power. Have a good week and thanks so much for the awesome parties.

Thank you! I see equipment for sale often, and I am fairly certain that an agency purchased it. As a former Adm. in Assisted Living it is fairly easy to spot. Honestly without passing judgement I wish that the equipment was passed on just as you did, especially to families that do not qualify for services, as of yet. Waiting for needed equipment and supplies is very fatiguing to the patient and the caregiving family. Wishing you a great week ahead.

You probably know that dealers will not include the value of the special equipment added to the vehicle when they buy it from you and was paid for by insurance, VA, or any agency. I understand that part and that was okay. BUT they can, and will, add that same value of accessible equipment to the value of the van and charge the next customer full price. I am really glad it worked out the way it did and it is fulfilling its purpose with a new family!

Thank you! I am so glad it worked out the way it did. We were able to add our community to their community. We all need that kind of support sometime in our lives, I think.

What a beautiful reminder of the power of community! Even in tough circumstances, it’s amazing to see how much kindness and support can be passed on. I’m so glad the van was able to help this family.

I have since found that I am in the same circle as one of the mother’s aunts, that my hairdresser went to high school with both parents as did my niece and nephew, that some of our friends helped set up the new house for move in. We are all entwined in ways we never knew — and probably never will know the full extent. It truly is amazing! I am so glad it worked out the way it did.

Thank you! We are all connected — from different states, different countries — and sometimes just need a reminder of that – especially when a life altering illness or event changes everything!
