Our dining table sets in front of a big window that looks into the backyard with a good view of the bird feeders during lunch. All week there has been a dark colored, good sized bird pecking away in the lawn. Couldn’t really see anything but its dark brown back which sorta looked like a skinny duck. Finally one day it turned toward the house on newly mown grass . That was not a duck bill! It looked like a woodpecker, but yellow front?? Turns out it is a yellow shafted flicker – a ground feeder specializing in ants and bugs. It is a woodpecker and the male chips out a new nest cavity every year. The bird bulletin of the week – get it here! May you find something new and fun in your world this week! Thanks for stopping by to share your awesomeness!
