The microwave beeped. I took out my plate and turned around. A small finger long brown bird with a beak half as long as its body was staring at me through the window, perched on a hook that held the humming bird feeder. I stared back across the length of the kitchen and dining room. I slowly began to eat as the bird watched. Finished, I set my plate on the counter. The tiny bird swooped down for a long drink of lunchtime nectar, then flew off to a nearby tree. A flashy humming bird with emerald back and a ruby throat flew in for a long swig from the feeder and then off to the same spot in the same tree. I had lunch with our new neighbors apparently! Thank you for featuring my Apple Snickerdoodle Cookie Cobbler! Still triple digits in North Texas and the hummingbirds are hiding, but the dragonflies are still occasionally coming out to stalk you. At our community pool (I live in a Del Webb retirement community), one entry is sloped and there’s a squirrel who will lie there outstretched arms and legs on his stomach to stay cool! He doesn’t seem to care about the people in the pool (but there’s usually just 5 or 6 of us “regulars”). Catch y’all again next week!

I love to feed hummingbirds and “regular” birds, too! Hummingbird feeders in the front and back yards and a bird seed feeder out back. I sure enjoy it and miss the hummingbirds when they leave, which seems to have been this past week here in Northern Nevada 🙁 Thank you for the party!
