Smashed Frogs – Halloween Candy

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Smashed Frogs Halloween Candy A Pinch of Joy

Notice that Smashed Frogs cereal snacks only take one half bag of fall colored M&Ms.  They only come in the big bag so don’t look for a little one.  If you can’t find the fall colors, you’ll have to pick out the brown and yellow and orange ones from a regular mix.  And that also means you’ll have to buy a big bag of the regular mix so there is enough.  Whichever you buy, you know what to do with the leftovers to keep them from going stale.  You are welcome!   🙂

Smashed Frogs is a pretty standard cereal and marshmallow mixture and follows the same process.  Choose dark green food coloring paste if you can find it, as it is easier and quicker to stir into the melted marshmallow mixture.  You can wipe butter on a couple of tablespoons and use them to drop the candy mixture on waxed or parchment paper.  Once the mixture has cooled enough to touch comfortably, I prefer to  smear a bit of butter or margarine on  finger tips and get hands on with it.  It’s easier to shape and work by hand, I think.   By working quickly the M&Ms will hold their shape.  As you go along, the longer they are in the hot marshmallow mix the M&Ms will start to melt and the hard shell crack.  This adds to the Smashed Frog vibe.

I’ve made tags to use for your Smashed Frogs.  There are small ones to put on favor packets of one or two Smashed Frogs as take home favors.  There is a large one to label a plate full.  Click here for the printable tags.

These look so fun and delicious! I remember room mom s making these when I was in like kindergarten and first grade. They would make them during the holidays and they were wreaths though. Makes me so nostalgic!

    Great idea!
