A Pinch of Joy

Eat Healthy, Do it Yourself, Live Well, Have Fun.

Busy Monday 733

We had numerous pigeons milling around the under the bird feeders.    The bird book says we have stone pigeons and doves in our area.  Okay.  Then I began to notice  pigeons that didn’t look like them.  Lo and behold there is a “new” kind.  They are a beautiful taupe gray with black markings on the tail and a black band around the neck.  And they are different from other birds.  They do not migrate, but expand their territory as their numbers grow.  They came to the Florida in the 1980’s or thereabouts and are working their way north.  They’ve already been spotted in Alaska so they are definitely expanding.  Believed to be from Eurasia, they are called Eurasian Pigeons.  Coming your way soon!  Anyone else get a kick out of weird bits of knowledge?  You’re welcome!  Thanks for stopping by to share your awesomeness!

    Hi Charlene,
We have so much fun watching the migration of so many different birds in our area. We have a little bird sanctuary with bird bath and several feeders set up where we can watch from our screen porch. It looks like a great party today and thanks so much for all the awesome parties through the years.

We will have to look for them here, our weather is similar in East Texas. Bird trivia is always enjoyable! Thanks for hosting and the feature of my Snacks that Satisfy post.
